Eltham Festival organisers are proud to announce that their event is now officially balloon free!
This achievement has been formally recognised by Zoos Victoria, who are strongly campaigning for outdoor events to ‘blow bubbles not balloons’.
When balloons are used outdoors, there is a chance they could end up in oceans and waterways harming wildlife through ingestion and entanglement. In 2016, the CSIRO named balloons in the top three most harmful litter items to marine wildlife.
Balloons can be fun. But they don’t belong outside.
Festival organisers are challenging stall holders to be creative and to come up with alternatives to balloons – like bubbles.
