Idol Terms & Conditions
THE COMPETITION
Eltham Idol 2011 is a competition for vocal performers only. It offers an opportunity for competitors to perform in public for a range of non-cash prizes. Performers may sing unaccompanied, accompany themselves, provide a single accompanist only, or perform to a backing track in CD format (2 copies) or ipod, which may contain backing vocals only (i.e. no Principal/Lead Vocals allowed).
The Rotary Club of Eltham is conducting Eltham Idol 2011 as a feature of the 2011 Rotary Eltham Town Festival.
It comprises of three (3) categories:
- Under Twenty-One (original songs)
- Under Twenty-One (cover songs)
- Under Fifteen
Entrants must be younger than the stated age (twenty one years of age or fifteen years of age) on NOVEMBER 1st, 2011. Proof of age may be required.
No contestant may enter more than one section
STRUCTURE
All entrants may be invited to perform in a heat before a judging panel either at Samson Hill Winery (Under 15) or TBD (Under 21) as indicated. If insufficient entrants are received by the due date, the heat may be cancelled to allow all such entrants to perform in the Final. All entrants will be notified of any change by email.
The Final for the Under 15 category will be held on Saturday 12 November in the Eltham Town Square, Commercial Place Eltham and the Final for the Under 21 original and cover song categories will be held on Sunday 13 November in Alistair Knox Park, Main Road, Eltham.
CONTESTANTS
In all three categories, entrants must be AMATEUR performers. For this competition an amateur performer is considered to be one who does not receive a regular income from performing as a singer, either individually or as a member of a group, where that income forms more than twenty percent (20%) of their total annual earnings. Onus of proof, if required, lies with the competitor.
In all categories, this condition may be waived if the entrant is a full-time student who may be receiving a ‘regular income’ for part-time work as a singer. A contestant unsure of his or her eligibility in this regard is advised to raise the matter at the time of application for a ruling to be made prior to the Heats.
ENTRY FEES
A fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) for the Under 21 Sections and fifteen dollars ($15.00) for the Under 15 Section must accompany each application form. Cheques/Money Orders are to be made payable to ‘Rotary Club of Eltham’. No refund of fees will be made in the event of non-appearance.
PRIZES
All prizes are supplied by the Rotary Club of Eltham and are not redeemable for cash.
CLOSING DATE
Entrants must apply on the entry form provided with full payment by MONDAY 17 OCTOBER 2011 to;

All application forms remain the property of The Rotary Club of Eltham Inc. and no contestant information will be made available to any other parties.
PERFORMANCE AND ACCOMPANIMENT
A competitor may sing unaccompanied or may be self-accompanied, single instrument accompanied or perform to a professional backing track on CD (2 copies) or ipod, which may contain backing vocals only (i.e. no Principal/Lead Vocals allowed). Any accompaniment must be provided by the competitor.
Microphones and professional amplification systems will be made available at all sessions.
Contestants are responsible for providing a working order CD (2 copies) or ipod containing the one song that will be performed on the day for use when required. All such items must be lodged at registration prior to each performance and once presented cannot be accessed until the conclusion of the performance program. Responsibility for collection lies solely with the performer.
No person other than the performer and one accompanist, if nominated, is permitted on stage during a performance.
No prompting or assistance of any kind will be allowed except by the adjudicators.
REGISTRATION
Registration Desk will open one hour prior to scheduled session time.
ADJUDICATION
An adjudication panel will be appointed for each performance session. Communication with adjudicators by performers, teachers or interested parties prior to and during the performance program is prohibited.
In all rounds of competition, the decision of the adjudicators is final and not subject to appeal or dispute procedures of any kind other than breaches of the Terms and Conditions herein.
PROTESTS
Any claim for a breach of these Terms and Conditions must be made in writing within 48 hours of competition and be accompanied by a fee of fifty dollars ($50.00), which will be forfeited if protest is dismissed or deemed frivolous.
COPYRIGHT
In accordance with Federal Statutes, competitors must use original material or have permission from the relevant owners of copyright to make and use copies of copyright materials in this competition. The Rotary Club of Eltham as organisers of Eltham Idol 2011 will not be liable for any infringements regarding copyright.
INFORMATION AND NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES
The Eltham Festival website (www.rotaryelthamtownfestival.org.au) will provide all on-going information, including program changes and notification of each performer’s session times and results.
In the event of inclement weather, outdoor sessions may be transferred to a more suitable venue.
Such change will be also notified to participants in that section only by way of email as soon as practicable.
Contestants are therefore asked to provide a working email contact upon application and are strongly advised to check same during the course of the competition.
